Artist Statement:
For my pre-instruction vessel I made a chalice. It has a yellow coil band and dotted texture in the stem of the glass. I glazed it green and yellow.
The elements of design that were most prominent in this piece are color, line and form. Texture also plays a big role in this piece. There is texture on the stem of the piece that I achieved by using the handle of a clay tool.
I started by making a bowl. After I realized I had much more time in class I decided to ass to it by placing it on a stand. I then realized I was making a chalice shape so I decided to decorate it as one by adding coils and texture.
I think as a pre-instruction piece this was successful. It's very smooth and the different parts were connected well using slip and score. But looking back now I realize that if I were to fire it, it would blow up in the kiln because of the solidity and thickness in the stem of the cup.
